Mao Zedong Rise to power

Mao Zedong can be seen as the father of communism in China. However his rise to power was much different than any others. After fleeing into Western China, traveling about 10,000 miles and losing 90% of his troops that followed him; Mao waited for his time to strike. Over time while China nationalists were fighting invaders from Japan. his communist party was becoming stronger and the nationalist become weaker. Mao struck after the brief war and won. Mao followed in Stalin's footsteps when it came to running a nation. He created landforms which took away land from the rich and distributed it equally among the poor. Landlords would be humiliated and put on a fixed trial which would lead them execution. Strict communism was happening just like in Russia. How did Mao really gain power and control over a country that was for nationalism? The answer is Poverty. Poverty was all throughout China. 90% of the Chinese population was poor. Mao came to them with something they had never been offered before, or had. Land. Mao knew that to win he had to win over the power of the people. In his succession to do this, Mao also created loyalty from the people because of his land reforms. Mao was now secure in power, communism infected another country.

  1. Nationalist countries such as Taiwan were not tolerant of Maoist ways and had demanded for them to become their own independent country. Taiwanese people knew that Mao would brainwash many of the nationalists and lead them towards communist ways just like the domino theory, where if one person turns over the other will follow. Taiwan's education and media centers were all in control of Mao and were intended to spread the word about communist advantages. Up to this day, Taiwan still strictly neglects China and have never really got along, therefore Mao had failed to unify the P.R.O.C.(People's Republic of China) in order to have gained more power in his time.

  2. I think the reason that Mao got such massive support was not only because of what he promised his people. but because of how he carried himself. Mao had a personality and character that made him seem like someone who you should follow, someone who you could depend on. Mao came across as a strong man, and a man who could help his country through everything. The reason he got so much support through his entire reign is because after he developed this massive amount of support, people just worshiped him more and more.

  3. Communism was still popular in China before Mao which had helped Mao gain power, but since the government wasn't Communist, people couldn't speak up until Mao lead China. People liked Mao but were scared at first because they didn't know if Mao could be the new leader. He was an underdog and the people had gave him support when he was starting to gain power
